E.Z. Shakes have released three new songs showcasing the turn in sonic palette as a now four piece, all electric, louder and more creatively daring version of themselves. Recorded in early 2022 at the Jam Room recording studio, these tracks feature a more indie electric guitar driven core, which fans of such groups as Band of Horses, Kings of Leon, Pedro the Lion, Drive By Truckers, or early Wilco, might enjoy.
E.Z. Shakes - which could be considered the moniker for singer-songwriter Zach Seibert - have been developing their sound with each recorded offering since the group began. Originally a stripped back, dark-country duo consisting of Zach Seibert on vocals and acoustic guitar, and Todd T. Hicks on pedal steel guitar, E.Z. Shakes landed on the scene with an introductory four song EP recorded in summer of 2017. By the fall of 2017, the group added guitarist and producer John Furr and percussionist Stanford Gardner. The four combined to record the first full length LP for the band, The Wolf, which was recorded and released in early 2018. The group added bass player Jim Taylor and continued with songwriting and shows which resulted in two more EP releases and another full length LP, The Spirit from 2020.
During pandemic times, the delay in live shows and general refocusing resulted in original member Todd T. Hicks taking a full hiatus from band activities, while simultaneously songwriter Zach Siebert began experimenting with eschewing the acoustic guitar for a Gibson SG, and a pedalboard of spooky and dreamy effects. The three new songs on this EP hint at what could be the future tone for this group who somehow create songs which can feel familiar, but also come across like a fresh project.
