The Spirit 04:15
When the spirit moves upon me I’ll be on the ground Letting grace wash over ‘cause to hell I’m bound Who has ears let ‘em hear And to him who can’t - let it be clear That a storm is coming Likes we’ve never seen I suggest you hit your knees boy ‘Cause it ain’t no joke - He’s coming again I was washed in water I was born again But the fire burned too brightly And now here I stand Kicking myself for being so weak Praying on the daily That’s why I speak What you do in darkness Will be shown in light If you think you can fool the devil Well be my guest - give it a try Yeah a storm is coming Likes we’ve never seen I suggest you hit your knees boy ‘Cause it ain’t no joke - He’s coming again What you do in darkness Will be shown in light If you wanna fool the devil Well be my guest - give it a try You can be my guest - give it a try

The Rileys 03:21
I ain’t got time to waste no Getting older, feeling bolder Hell yeah I got something to say Jesus loves you and he loves me There was was a man from the outskirts of town And he couldn’t stand up and he wouldn’t sit down Said he wanted you with all of his heart So he did the right thing sold his dream Headed out to California Where he’s living’ it up with the Rileys I know that we break down easy ‘Cause it gets so hard, gets so hard When you’re coming down If we could but die to ourselves And take a chance on the river, we’d never want to sail Leave behind all our habits and lies And be new men with a new plan Gonna sing it out, even if you don’t like it I know that we break down easy It gets so hard, gets so hard When you’re coming down

Grove St 02:31
When I was younger I thought about Jesus As some wild wizard who taught to the heathens He healed the sick, and raised the dead There’s something false about those we admire The hero’s we choose, the things we desire There’s something real that comes with the ones we love I got hit by a train on Grove Street And it wrecked my soul I’ve been spending my time running in circles Falling in love and being a jerk I get mesmerized by the way I can wreck anything And my well runs deep but most times it’s dry If you want we can get up and you can ask why I don’t have all the answers but I swear I know the truth I got hit by a train on Grove Street And it wrecked my soul And it wrecked my soul

Thirteen 04:16
I was just a boy when I made thirteen years old Took everything I could from my old man He taught me right form wrong Showed me to be strong And the face of a world gone wrong If I could go back And show him what I have A pocket full fo dreams or so it seems He’d say boy remember who you are Don’t ever stray too far From the truth and what the good lord has in store I remember you Hands so strong And in my mind you never did wrong Sometimes we run it out Sometimes we sing and shout You were laying facedown And I was drunk at home Drinking some beer they don’t make no more When a call came in at one It said Zach you’re daddy’s gone It said Zach you’re daddy’s gone Well I grabbed my head Grasped for breath My wife a nervous wreck How was I gonna tell myself that my dad was dead I felt so lost far from home
5.
Count Me Out 03:53
I flew like an arrow Straight towards the ground I couldn’t hear a sound Tape hiss said had to start now So I’ve taken my branches And I’ve trimmed ‘em all back Im waiting for you You can count me in or just count me out And the churches are empty The bride she done changed She’s done being useful Maybe I just missed the game And when the fences all broken And shit’s getting out Gotta stand proud Count me in or just count me out Done taking changes Done being nice I’ve got no excuses There’s only what’s right So tell me it’s all good Kiss me goodnight Tell me it’s all good Then turn out the lights You can count me in or just count me out You can count me in or just count me out
6.
Well I bark like a dog and I howl at the moon To get my way sometimes Nothing feels so lonesome As when you’re not around The moon is full and it’s getting cold I swear we could use more shine I’m gonna tell everybody That we’re not around I need a break from this town Making mistakes tryin’ to earn that crown Here we walk that dirt road Like we’ve always done Picking up the pieces of all that we’ve become Once I played with childish things The mirror it was black Now I see see so dimly the hope I’ve held so fast I’m counting change for that train Making mistakes tryin’ to board again Have you ever killed a man and drank his blood like wine I tell you man I’ve done it and I swear it changed my life
7.
Yonder Town 03:02
Take me down to that yonder town Where they play and they sing all damn night I ain’t got the fight it’s all bark and no bite So I guess I’m saying goodbye I could’a been a postman Touching words with my hands I could’a been a preacher But I was too blind to see the light that I had Take me out and show me the route To the city with streets paved of gold Lord show the sign give me water to wine ‘Cause I believe I’m losing my mind I could’a been a postman Touching words with my hands I could’a been a preacher But I was too blind to see the light that I had

I know you’re just a restless soul babe Trying hard just to me a go babe I know its not all you expected Trying hard just to be a pretender I don’t wanna stop you From being what you ought to I don’t wanna be the one Who keeps you from the sun Take a pill and get some sleep babe Doctors orders you got to appreciate She don’t care what the people say She gonna do it her way anyway I don’t wanna stop you From being what you ought to I don’t wanna be the one Who keeps you from the sun
9.
Tell me a story but please keep it clean My ears are so weary of the obscene My heart is stays broken from the news that I read We’re all tired and broken, it’s a savior we need The inns are all closed Everyone is offended by the truth by agendas I wish we’d wake up and come our senses It’s a vision we need not direction Tell me a story but please keep it brief My attention’s been waning from disbelief Well we all won’t more we want to be chosen But in the end what we ask for we’re given I don’t know how it could be any clearer The future’s so black The end’s getting nearer We want answers we want the truth We want answers we want the truth We want answers we want the truth

Killing Time 02:58
I was wondering where you were last night Sleeping under our candlelight I swore I hadn’t had too much to drink Life’s thin when you’re living in sin It don’t matter if you dive in It’s all about the intention and knowing the costs Always thought that I was so strong Just a lie that I bring along Votes are in and I’m just as weak as the rest Life was fast though the hourglass Living young and we’re dying fast Sometimes wonder if we just missed the boat I know you won’t see me on the radio Just some fool killing time God shows his grace on those who get it wrong Darling that’s been me all along Darling that’s been me all along Darling that’s been me all along

about

The Spirit is the title of the second full length release from E.Z. Shakes. The final track list is 10 songs which vary between dark and dreamy, from sparse to saturated, and with the most variety of sounds of the group's releases so far. The guiding constant in all the songs, of course, is Zach Seibert's songwriting and his characteristic voice - his songs being simultaneously personal, yet familiar.

The recording was produced by band member John Furr and was recorded over a span of a year. First begun in early 2019, the project was put aside as the group shifted gears to release an EP in 2019 called Summer Cut, which was the output from a summer recording trip to Nashville. Once back on the project, the group finished tracking The Spirit in early 2020, and Furr's mix stems were sent to Mitch Easter for a final mixdown at his Fidelitorium Recordings studio in Kernersville NC.
